Privacy Policy

1. Who operates CaptionPop

CaptionPop is operated by SMALL TASKS. Privacy questions can be sent to support@captionpop.app. Website: https://captionpop.app.

2. No CaptionPop account

CaptionPop does not require or create a CaptionPop user account. We do not ask you to create a username or password for the service. Google Play may use your Google account to process a purchase, but CaptionPop does not receive your payment-card details.

3. Information CaptionPop processes

Depending on the features you use, CaptionPop may process:

• Video content that you select or record and choose to process.
• Audio extracted from the selected video for speech transcription.
• Caption text, including automatically generated captions and edits you make.
• Technical identifiers, such as a random installation identifier, project/job identifiers and security tokens used to authorize your project and prevent abuse.
• Purchase information, such as a Google Play product identifier, purchase token/confirmation and entitlement status for a Clean export.
• Basic network and operational data, such as IP/network metadata and server logs that may be processed for security, reliability, rate limiting, fraud prevention and troubleshooting.

4. Screen recording and device permissions

When you use CaptionPop's screen-recording feature, Android asks for screen-capture consent for each recording session. If you choose microphone or device-audio capture, the relevant audio permission is used for that recording. CaptionPop also uses the Android “Display over other apps” capability to show its movable recording control. The overlay permission itself does not cause CaptionPop to collect unrelated screen content.

A recording is first created in app-private storage on your device. It is uploaded for processing only after you choose to use the selected clip.

5. Why the information is used

CaptionPop uses the information above to provide the service you request, including uploading a selected clip, transcribing speech, generating and editing captions, rendering Free or Clean exports, delivering downloads, verifying one-time purchases, preventing abuse, securing the service and diagnosing failures.

6. Service providers

CaptionPop uses service providers to operate the app. Video audio or derived audio may be sent to OpenAI for speech transcription. Google Play processes in-app purchases and provides purchase verification information. Cloudflare infrastructure is used for parts of hosting, request handling, queues and temporary media storage. These providers process information under their own terms and applicable data-protection obligations.

CaptionPop does not sell uploaded videos, caption text or personal data, and does not use uploaded videos for advertising.

7. Retention and deletion

Server-side copies of uploaded source media, extracted audio, generated caption artifacts and rendered media are temporary. They are scheduled for automatic deletion after the processing/download window, with a target of approximately 24 hours. If an operation is already actively finishing at the cutoff, cleanup may run immediately after that operation safely settles.

Limited technical, security, anti-abuse and purchase/entitlement records may be kept longer where necessary to operate the service, prevent fraud, restore a paid entitlement, meet accounting obligations or comply with law. Those records do not require us to keep your source video.

Local working files on your device remain under your control until you delete or replace the project, clear CaptionPop app data, or uninstall the app. Videos or SRT files that you explicitly save to shared device storage are separate copies and are not deleted automatically by CaptionPop.

8. Security

CaptionPop uses HTTPS for production network traffic, non-public project authorization tokens, restricted server credentials and access controls intended to protect temporary media and service data. No method of transmission or storage is completely risk-free, but CaptionPop is designed to limit access to data needed to provide the requested service.

9. Your choices and rights

You may stop using CaptionPop at any time, delete local app data through Android, uninstall the app and delete any exported files you saved to your device. Because CaptionPop has no user accounts, there is no CaptionPop account to close.

Depending on where you live, you may also have legal rights relating to access, correction, deletion, restriction or objection to processing. For an active processing job, include the project/job identifier when available so we can locate the relevant temporary data.

10. Children

CaptionPop is not designed specifically for children. The app should not be used by a person who is below the minimum age at which they may lawfully consent to use an online service in their jurisdiction without appropriate parental or guardian involvement.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the app, its infrastructure or legal requirements change. The date at the top of this page identifies the current version.
